YARNFWDtm CROCHET BUTTONS
These are very simple to make crochet buttons, which will add a certain charm to your garment.

ABBREVIATIONS:

ch = chain
in = inch(es)
mm = millimetres
rnd = round
sc = single crochet in North America, or a double crochet if you are British, Australian or a New Zealander.
ss = slip stitch in North America, or a single crochet if you are British, Australian or a New Zealander. (Confusing isn't it.)

MATERIALS:

Use the same yarn or a contrasting yarn as in the garment. If the garment is crocheted, use the same hook size. If the garment is knitted, use a hook the same size as the needles used. For example, if the garment used 4.5 mm needles, use a 4.5 mm hook. A smaller hook will make smaller buttons. A larger hook will make larger buttons.

SMALL BUTTON:

Ch 2 leaving about 5 ins (13cm) of yarn at the start.

lst Rnd: Work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ss into 1st sc.

2nd Rnd: Ch 1. *Draw up a loop in 1st sc. Draw up a loop in next sc. Yarn over hook, and draw through all three loops on hook. Repeat from * three times, so that all 8 sc in 1st rnd have been worked. Ss into 1st sc to complete rnd.

Fasten off, leaving end 5 ins (13cm) long.

Finishing: Enclose yarn at start of chain inside button to create a filling. Thread other end of yarn through a tapestry needle and gather opening of button. Draw closed and tie.
